Vertical Integration

Sterling Construction has a unique perspective, which adds value to our customer’s business plan for any development. Sterling Group, Inc. retains ownership of many of the properties we build and develop. Because we work directly with Sterling’s management, development and acquisitions divisions throughout each project, Sterling Construction is well- versed in each segment of the development process.

Working with Sterling Development, we identify the unique traits of each new community that may have an effect on the construction process. We work side by side with Sterling Acquisitions to brainstorm innovative ways to enhance the communities we attain. And, finally, we partner with Sterling Management to make sure the product we deliver is on-time and is of an exceptional quality for their customers. Through careful planning and consistent communication and teamwork, we succeed in achieving our shared objectives.

Green Building

As beneficiaries of the earth's natural resources, it is incumbent upon all of us to use those resources wisely. Construction projects can have a significant impact, positive or negative, on the environment, and Sterling Construction’s personnel are committed to building in an environmentally sensitive manner.

Sterling is committed to the success and increased adoption of sustainable construction practices throughout the industry. As part of this effort, we train our colleagues in the theory and practice of green building, emphasizing the National Green Building system. We believe Green buildings are not only good for the environment, they also provide immediate and long-term economic benefits for developers, building owners and occupants.

The use of energy-efficient building systems, water-efficient plumbing systems, environmentally appropriate landscaping, and other sensible solutions, can help to ensure that your building is not only sensitive to the environment, but extremely efficient, thus reducing long-term operating costs.

Sterling Construction has achieved various certifications levels in the following “green” systems:

Statutory, Regulartory, and Financial Requirements

Sterling Construction has extensive experience with understanding and incorporating all unique statutory, regulatory, and financial requirements and guidelines into the project plan.  Some of the programs we have complied with include: federal subsidies, federal and state tax credits, historic tax credits, new market tax credits, Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), bonds, executive orders, Davis Bacon requirements, federally insured mortgages, Hope VI funds, HOME funds, Low Income Housing Grants, tax abatements, and Minority and Women’s Business Enterprise utilization requirements.  Regardless of the program, Sterling Construction is accustomed to working with the program managers to maintain compliance throughout the construction process.

Construction Management Services

To deliver a project on time and on budget while keeping costs and administrative liabilities to a minimum the Sterling Construction management team provides any or all of the following services:

Sterling Construction offers a variety of CM services, depending on client preference and project needs. We will conduct CM on an "at risk" basis, providing a guaranteed maximum price for the cost of construction of the project and taking on the dual role of construction manager and contractor; or we serve as the owner's representative to optimize cost control, timely delivery and quality product.

Construction management is offered as part of overall project/program management which, in addition to the CM services described above, includes procurement and coordination of engineering and design. Our procurement services include developing and approving criteria for materials and equipment, developing bidding lists, evaluating bids and making recommendations to the owner, placing orders, planning deliveries and making site inspections.
