Founded in 1976 and headquartered in Mishawaka, Indiana, Sterling Group is a real estate investment services firm specializing in multi-family housing and self-storage properties.

Sterling is privately-held, family-owned, and vertically integrated. The breadth of interdisciplinary companies include our development, construction, property management, and investment services companies. Across our senior management team, we enjoy more than 160 years’ combined professional experience, and the stability and longevity of the executive team is illustrated by the average tenure with the Firm exceeding fifteen years. Across our entire platform, there are approximately 250 employees working together to drive value to our investments every day.  Our apartment properties include market rate, tax credit, student and seniors housing.

After recently selling 6,000 units, today we own approximately 11,000 units of apartment and self-storage units.  We are actively developing, constructing, acquiring, financing, leasing, managing, and selling. We develop everything we construct. We manage everything we own, and we manage on behalf of others as well.  Our geographic footprint expands across the Midwest and Southeast United States as well as North Dakota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, and Missouri. We currently own and manage about 50 properties in over 35 markets.

Though we finance our debt with many institutional players, the GSE Agencies have provided a large number of loans to us including long-term self-amortizing FHA loans for both new developments and acquisitions. 

During our rich history, we have acquired, developed or redeveloped in excess of $1 billion of deals.  We have earned the respect and trust of more than a dozen institutional capital partners as well as more than 150 high net worth families who have chosen to invest with us. We invest our cash in every deal that we sponsor.

We recently raised a large fully discretionary Fund and are actively marketing another limited partner fund to family offices, pension funds, wealth management firms, private equity and other institutional equity capital partners to help us selectively expand our acquisition and development pipeline.
